Out and Back Winnipeg Sport Orthotic provides specialized, professional advice regarding footwear, over the counter insoles, and custom foot orthotics.
All custom foot orthotics are fabricated at the lab located in Winnipeg with clinical assessments and orthotic modifications performed at the Sport Medicine Centre at the Sport Manitoba building on 145 Pacific Avenue 2nd Floor.
Is performed to determine your footwear and/or insole needs, and provide a professional opinion on your particular situation to give you with the information you need.
An assessment involves:
At your assessment, it may be determined a small insert into a shoe may only be needed to resolve your foot problem. Inserts vary from a metatarsal pad to heel wedges or lifts. This is a service in addition to your assessment.
Old orthotics may have their shells recovered when their padding or top cover wears out.
When proper footwear, over the counter inserts do not resolve your problem custom foot orthotics may be necessary.
Custom Foot Orthotics are made from the original plaster casted created during the assessment process. A mould is produced from the plaster cast that will then be used to fabricate the orthotic.
The Custom Foot Orthotics are made in house at the Lab at Henderson Highway from a variety of materials to meet your requirements.
Prior to the dispensing of the orthotic I will be requesting a pair of your footwear to custom fit the orthotic into your shoes.
If within six months you decide you would like a second pair of orthotics using the original mould cast from your first pair of orthotics the cost is reduced to $375.00
Insurance companies may provide coverage for custom foot orthotics. Please check with your insurer to confirm coverage as it is the insured’s responsibility to ensure what your insurance policy coverage is. Out and Back cannot confirm your coverage as all insurance policies are unique.
A prescription from your Physician is required to dispense any orthotics at Out and Back.

Tibialis posterior tendinopathy is a condition where there is damage to the tendon behind the medial malleous (inner part of the ankle) with subsequent degeneration and sometimes swelling. This may occur traumatically due to a high force going through the tendon beyond what it can withstand, or more commonly due to gradual wear and tear associated with overuse.
A custom foot orthotic can support the medial longitudinal arch, and reducing the pain and deformity, and slow the progression of the condition.
Metatarsalgia is a term used to describe a group of forefoot conditions that cause pain, burning or discomfort under the ball of the foot or in the metatarsal bones.
A custom foot orthotic can be manufactured to support the transverse arch (under the ball of the foot) and relieve the pressure on the metatarsal heads.
Plantar Fasciitis is a painful condition affecting the plantar fascia. Plantar Fascia is a thick connective tissue that originates from bottom of the heel and runs along the sole of the foot to the toes.
Stretching and strengthening exercises for the plantar fascia is recommended and an over the counter insole or custom foot orthotic can aid in the treatment of plantar fasciitis.
Osteoarthritis is commonly found in the joint of the big toe and results in pan when walking or running.
The use of custom foot orthotic can relieve the painful symptoms of osteoarthritis of the 1st metatarsal phalangeal joint. An orthotic can support the area under the 1st MTP to decrease the pain associated with the arthritis.
Shin splints are a common condition that effect athletes in running sports or high impact sports such as basketball and soccer. Shin splints are characterized by pain in the lower part of the leg between the knee and ankle.
An orthoses can help by supporting the medial longitudinal arch and correcting over pronation, thereby reduces the strain of the lower leg muscles.
